A broken bone, or fracture, can happen in an instant, whether from a fall, a sports collision, or repetitive stress that gradually weakens the bone. The pain, swelling, and limited movement that follow can make even simple daily tasks feel overwhelming, and knowing what kind of fracture care you need is the first step toward healing correctly.
At Modern Edge Sports & Orthopedic Medicine, Dr. Michael Wong, DO, provides fracture treatment for fractures that do not require surgery, using modern tools like the ActivArmor® 3D-printed cast to make the healing process more comfortable. Board-certified and trained through UPMC, Dr. Mike evaluates each fracture carefully to determine the safest, most effective path to recovery.
If you are dealing with a new or healing fracture, request an appointment with our team today to find out how we can help you heal comfortably, confidently, and on a timeline that fits your life.

Not every broken bone needs surgery. Many fractures heal well with careful monitoring, proper immobilization, and time, and our team focuses on guiding patients through that non-surgical recovery process as comfortably as possible.
There are several types of fractures, ranging from small hairline or stress fractures caused by repetitive impact to more complete breaks. Dr. Mike evaluates each fracture with imaging and a physical exam to determine whether it can be managed non-surgically or whether it should be referred to a surgeon. Fractures that are well-aligned and stable are generally good candidates for bone fracture treatment without an operation, while significantly displaced or complex fractures typically require surgical care.
For appropriate non-surgical fractures, we offer the ActivArmor 3D-printed cast, a custom-fit, waterproof alternative to traditional plaster or fiberglass casting. Because it is designed from a 3D scan of your specific limb, it tends to be lighter and more breathable than a standard cast, and being waterproof means you can shower without worrying about damaging it. ActivArmor is intended for fractures that do not require surgery, and it is not a substitute for surgical fixation when a break needs that level of care.
Every fracture and insurance plan is different, so fracture treatment cost can vary from patient to patient. Our office accepts most major insurance plans and also offers self-pay pricing for patients who are uninsured or prefer to pay directly. Our team is happy to go over your specific coverage and options during your visit.
We provide non-surgical care for fractures such as hairline and stress fractures, along with stable, well-aligned breaks that do not require an operation. If Dr. Mike determines that a fracture needs surgical repair, he will refer you to an outside orthopedic surgeon and can still assist with cast fitting once your surgeon confirms that surgery is complete or not required.
Your visit typically starts with imaging and a physical exam to confirm the type and severity of the fracture. From there, Dr. Mike will discuss whether your fracture can be managed non-surgically, which may include an ActivArmor cast, along with a schedule of follow-up visits to track healing.
Cost depends on the type of fracture, the imaging needed, and your specific insurance plan. We accept most major insurance plans, and self-pay pricing is also available for patients who are uninsured or prefer to pay out of pocket. Our team can go over the details with you before your visit.
Scheduling with our team is quick and easy. Submit a request through our online appointment request form, and one of our staff members will reach out to confirm your visit. We look forward to helping you heal and get back to your normal routine.
